TELCO STRATEGY
Sateliot has opened what it describes as the first European 5G Satellite Development Centre, located within its new headquarters in central Barcelona. The operator frames the opening as the beginning of its industrial phase and a step that strengthens European capability in 5G IoT connectivity from space. Sateliot reports that the centre has already created more than 50 roles, supporting its workforce expansion over the past year.
The centre focuses on the design, development and verification of 5G satellites built to common 3GPP standards used by mobile operators. Sateliot presents the facility as a catalyst for activity linked to the New Space sector in Catalonia and Spain.
Thys Cronje, Head of Business Development at Simera Sense, stated:“ Traditional space companies will face even more financial pressure as they see increased competition from the newspace sector. However, the newspace industry is maturing and seen as a reliable alternative for the risk-averse and bureaucratic traditional space. Therefore, even large institutions and agencies will rely more on the new space industry to pursue their ambitious goals, thus blurring the lines with traditional space.” His observation underscores Sateliot’ s position at the intersection of these two worlds, as a company translating new space agility into infrastructure-scale programs aligned with European standards and governance.
