THE NEW SPACE SECTOR AND SATELIOT’ S ROLE IN EXPANSION
The New Space sector marks a transition from state-led programmes to a commercially driven era centred on private enterprise and emerging technology providers. It is characterised by smaller platforms, new manufacturing processes, and faster development cycles that lower costs and accelerate deployment. Brian Gallant, CEO of Space Canada, says:“ Through enhanced investments and new programmes, many countries are pushing to encourage commercialisation by only building what can’ t be bought from commercial partners to strengthen their respective industrial bases.” The approach mirrors European initiatives such as Sateliot’ s Barcelona site, where public programmes align with private research and production capacity.
The sector is expanding to manage regulatory, environmental and operational responsibilities, including debris control and sustainability standards. The growing demand for satellite-based connectivity, data, and AI-related applications continues to attract investment. Industry forecasts suggest the New Space economy could exceed US $ 1.6 trillion by 2030, driven by public-private partnerships and next-generation technology innovation.
