THE TELCO INTERVIEW
The keen observation of untapped needs became the cornerstone of Vodafone IoT’ s approach in the region.“ Vodafone IoT’ s journey in the Americas really began when we recognised that US businesses were increasingly looking for partners who could deliver global scalability,” explains Phil.“ As competitive and innovative as the US market is, we came across many companies that had ambitions which extended well beyond the nation’ s borders. Our strategy leverages Vodafone IoT’ s extensive global reach – spanning more than 760 networks in 180 countries – to provide a single, unified solution for international IoT management. By offering one partner, one platform and one global SIM, we enable American enterprises to focus on innovation instead of the complexities of connectivity.
The hyperscaling imperative: From theory to practice The term‘ hyperscaling’ is central to the Vodafone IoT value proposition, representing the ability to deploy and manage vast numbers of devices across continents without friction. The capability is not just a convenience; in many sectors, it is a mission-critical necessity. Nowhere is it more evident than in healthcare, where reliability can be a matter of life and death. For manufacturers of specialised medical devices, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for patients travelling internationally is a paramount concern.
“ Healthcare is a perfect example as providers of specialist medical devices – like pace markers – have customers around the world,” notes Phil.“ From a supplier perspective, they want to ensure that the customers with critical health conditions remain connected wherever they are. It is worth noting that, while some of these conditions are critical, using connected health technology allows patients to remain highly mobile and able to travel to other countries and regions. The flexibility is great for the patient but poses additional challenges for the equipment providers to ensure that the devices stay connected everywhere.”
