Abby says:“ There is a lot of uncertainty over sustainability targets. Looking ahead, there needs to be a framework to support people. Science-based target initiatives are also helpful and I hope the regulatory space becomes clearer over the course of the next 18 months.
“ For us, we work closely with our parent company, BT Group, who support us through this process and highlight areas of sustainability that we need to focus on.”
Additionally, a transparent public conversation about climate change is critical for keeping businesses accountable for their sustainability promises.
“ While voluntary alignment on Scope 1, 2 and 3 targets remains important because of varying regulations, consistent data reporting and life cycle assessments are still challenging due to differing methodologies and boundaries,” Steven notes.“ The telecoms industry’ s proactive approach has already made strides, particularly in Scope 3 alignment.
“ With ongoing collaboration and a commitment to standardised practices, the mobile sector can lead by example, demonstrating that the path to a sustainable future is both achievable and essential.”
